Welcome to Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge! My name is Stanley and I am one of the Canine Ambassadors here at the Lodge. I arrived in Jasper on October 31, 2013 from the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind.
I’ve been using all those vacation hours I’ve saved up to do some travelling recently so I may not always be in the Main Lodge lobby. But not to worry – I’ve taken on a new trainee, Calla, who is happy to greet you while I spend my days sipping on “Pina Cola-paws” and relaxing somewhere poolside.
At 10 years young, I am a little bit slower moving than my younger counterpart. I also may need extra convincing on our walks together, so best to bring lots of treats!
I hope you enjoy your stay!
Welcome to Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge! I’m Calla, a 5-year old Golden Retriever city girl who has made the big move to the Canadian Rockies. I am so excited to start exploring my new home!
My birthday is April 30th, 2017. This makes me a Taurus, which means I’m loving, friendly and sometimes a little bit stubborn for my own good.
I was born into the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind (CGDB) in Ontario and was part of their Guide Dog and Assistance Dog Training Program. When I started in the formal training department, it was discovered that I was incredibly personable, and loved to retrieve and target objects. This meant I was best suited for the Mobility Assistance Program. However, due to the pandemic in 2020, I was not able to be placed as an Assistance Dog but had huge potential to be a wonderful ambassador dog. I am now thrilled to call Jasper Park Lodge home where I can do what I love, meet and greet new friends at the hotel, and explore the mountains in Jasper National Park.
Come say hi to me in the Main Lodge lobby from 10:00 AM – 12:00PM and 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS
Blondes do have more fun (don’t tell Stanley I said that) and I am always up for an adventure outside. There are so many exciting new smells for me and I love playing tag with the ground squirrels.
Sometimes I like to pretend I’m a raccoon hunting for treasure. I love scavenging through the trash for tasty treats, but this gets me into trouble with my humans. One of my favourite activities is smiling! I am always very happy especially when you give me treats or pets.
I am a big foodie and will never say no to food, but please make sure I am rewarded only by showing you some of my cool tricks.
LEARN TO SPEAK CALLA
Unless you’re fluent in dog, you may not always know what I’m saying but lucky for you I’ve been studying up on my human words and know a couple that you can use while we are together!
Busy – If I need a biobreak, use “busy” to let me know it’s okay for me to relieve myself.
Steady – If I’m pulling, use “steady” to help me know to stop.
