Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course Tees Up Its Grand Reopening And Historic Centennial Season

June 5, 2025

JASPER, AB – Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is excited to announce the reopening of its renowned golf course on July 1, 2025, marking the beginning of its centennial celebrations. After extensive recovery efforts following last year’s wildfires, the reopening ushers in a transformative year, launching the next chapter for the iconic course.

The Stanley Thompson-designed masterpiece, consistently ranked amongst Canada’s top golf resorts, will welcome players back to its breathtaking mountain setting while undergoing a series of enhancements throughout the summer. These improvements are part of a comprehensive plan aimed at restoring and elevating the course for future generations.

The reopening of the course is a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal, standing alongside other milestones that mark Jasper’s bright future after last year’s wildfires. Made possible by the dedication of brave First Responders, Parks Canada, and the strategic operation of the golf course irrigation system, this milestone reflects the incredible efforts that safeguarded much of the property during critical moments.

“We are beyond excited to reopen our doors and fairways to golf enthusiasts from around the world,” said Tahlon Sweenie, Director of Golf, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. “This centennial year is not just a celebration of our past but a bold step into our future. The enhancements we are undertaking will ensure that Jasper remains at the forefront of golf excellence for the next 100 years, while providing unique opportunities for guests to connect with the natural beauty of Jasper National Park.”

Developed in collaboration with renowned golf architect Ian Andrew, the renovation plan includes:

  • Expansion of greens to the original layout, to reclaim historical pin locations
  • Restoration of two bunkers to their dramatic, original Stanley Thompson designs
  • Selective tree management to restore historic sightlines and improve overall playability – part of a broader revegetation strategy that will continue through to 2028
  • Elevated on-course experience with all new course furnishings
  • The debut of a reimagined driving range, featuring artisan-crafted distance markers created from reclaimed wood salvaged after the wildfires.

Head Golf Course Superintendent, Glenn Griffis, commented on the ongoing work: “Our team is working tirelessly to restore the course after last year’s wildfire. Guests can look forward to exciting enhancements, including new equipment, resurfaced greens, and fresh pin placements—all designed to elevate play while honouring Stanley Thompson’s legendary design. With a more open landscape revealing breathtaking vistas reminiscent of the 1925 golf experience, this season offers a once-in-a-century opportunity to experience this architectural gem as it was originally envisioned.”

The Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course has a storied history dating back to its opening on July 17, 1925. Designed by the legendary Stanley Thompson to take advantage of the stunning vistas and leave golfers surprised and delighted, the course quickly gained recognition for its compelling integration with the surrounding Rocky Mountain landscape. Over the decades, it has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments and welcomed countless golf enthusiasts and celebrities.

As part of its centennial celebrations, the resort will offer a special Centennial Stay & Play package alongside distinctive experiences that pay tribute to the course’s storied past. Highlights include a Time Capsule installation to preserve memories for future generations, the chance to play the course using original 1925 yardages with vintage scorecards and authentic hickory clubs, and a historical photo activation at the Starter Hut—inviting guests to step back in time and relive the early days of this iconic course. Book your experience today and tee off into a century of tradition!
