Ghost Stories of the Lodge

Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has been a historical icon for over a century. Walking the same halls as many notable figures of the past, it’s easy to immerse yourself in another era, imagining the countless memories that were made within these spaces.  Much like the lodge itself, the following tales have endured through generations – stories that hint some guests may simply love the resort too much to ever leave.

The Point Cabin Ghost

Perhaps one of the lodge’s most enduring stories centers on Point Cabin, a place steeped in as much character as history.  As the tale goes, an incident in the 1940’s left behind a story that has woven itself into a tapestry of lore.  Over the decades, a few curious occurrences have been noted: the occasional unexpected ring of the phone to concierge… even when no one is staying in the cabin. A flicker of lights, televisions turning on and off, doors closing on their own, and the subtle, lingering scent of cigars – remnants of decades past when guests enjoyed the space in grand style.  Whether supernatural or simply echoes of history, Point Cabin remains one of the resort’s most sought-after and storied accommodations.

The Phantom Couple

Among the stories, perhaps none are as charming as that of the phantom couple. Guests have occasionally glimpsed two elderly figures, dressed in vintage attire, appearing in the ballroom.  Some see them seated at a table, while others catch them moving gracefully across the floor, as if dancing to music only they can hear.

Their appearance is never alarming; rather, their presence evokes nostalgia and warmth, a whisper of the romance and elegance that encompass the lodge’s rich history.   Whether they are spirits of past guests who loved the resort so dearly they simply couldn’t leave, or a trick of light and imagination, the couple continues to capture curiosity.

The Lady of the Beauvert Room

In the same room, a separate story endures. A historic photograph was taken during the off season when all of the staff had been sent home for the winter months. When the film was developed, however, the photo revealed a mysterious addition: a women seated quietly at a table, dressed in an outfit that strikingly resembled staff uniforms from the early 1920’s. Her image appeared unmistakably, though no one but the photographer was present during the session.

Today, the photograph still hangs in the hallway of the side entrance, among other images of the lodge’s history. Guests often pause to study it wondering who the figure might have been, and if her quiet presence still lingers nearby.

Timeless and charmingly mysterious, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge holds its opulence in not only its storied past, but in the memories of those who’ve visited.  Whether these stories are born of history or imagination, they are part of its charm – a reminder that Jasper Park Lodge continues to leave a lasting impression on guests, creating moments of grandeur that will live on for generations to come.
