Galaxy Guide: The Best of Jaspers Dark Skies

Welcome to Our Dark Sky Preserve

Jasper holds one of very few spots in the world with the title of accessible Dark Sky Preserve. With a townsite in the heart of it all, stargazing is closer than ever to your front door.

Best Spots to Stargaze

Thanks to the lack of lack pollution in our tiny town, stars and auroras can be spotted from so many different angles in Jasper but for the best experience, here’s our short list of top spots.

  • Pyramid Lake
  • Lac Beauvert
  • Medicine Lake
  • Lake Annette

Be on Weather Watch

Weather makes all the difference when chancing a night under the Nothern Lights. Factors such as visibility, humidity and more will have an effect on the strength and sighting of an aurora. But we will leave the science of it all to the astronomers. To better plan your evenings, you can find accurate readings on Aurora Watch or book an evening with the Jasper Planetarium!
